We have studied the magnetic properties of transition metal intercalated niobium dichalcogenides CoNb3S6, NiNb3S6 and CuNb3S6. CoNb3S6 and NiNb3S6 exhibit antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperatures, while CuNb3S6 shows no magnetic phase transition throughout the temperature range.
We have studied the magnetic properties of transition metal intercalated niobium dichalcogenides CoNb3S6, NiNb3S6 and CuNb3S6, which are synthesized by a chemical vapor transport (CVT) method using TeBr4 as transport agent in a horizontal two-zone tube furnace. CoNb3S6 and NiNb3S6 order antiferromagnetically below 30(2) K and 44(3) K, respectively. At high temperatures, the magnetic susceptibility is well described by the Curie-Weiss law and the deduced effective magnetic moments are 4.6(1) mu (B)/Co for CoNb3S6 and 2.6(6) mu (B)/Ni for NiNb3S6. In the case of CuNb3S6, no magnetic phase transition is observed from 2 to 300 K.
