Modifications in the magnetocaloric effect owing to composition changes in Gd2In1-xGex (0=≤x =≤0.2) system of compounds

Sanjay Sharma et al.

Summary: In this paper, the variations in magnetothermal, magnetocaloric, and magnetic properties of the Gd2In1-xGex (0 <=;x <= 0.2) system of compounds with Ge substitution are reported. Although no structural changes are observed, significant changes in magnetocaloric effect are observed under magnetic field variation.

Magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of as-cast Gd2In

S. Taskaev et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of Gd2In intermetallic compound, revealing ferromagnetic ordering in the as-cast samples below Curie temperature TC=194K and a metamagnetic transition from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase at temperature Tm=95K. The external magnetic field stabilized the ferromagnetic phase and shifted Tm to lower temperatures, with the isothermal magnetic entropy change reaching its maximum at Curie temperature. The results suggest that achieving a homogeneous state in polycrystalline Gd2In samples does not require additional heat treatment but can occur during cooling of the as-cast ingot on a cold crucible.
