Conversion of thermal energy to light energy and energy transfer in KGdF4: Eu3+ Tb3+ phosphors

Summary: A red emitting phosphor KGdF4:0.20Eu(3+),0.06 Tb3+ was prepared by hydrothermal method, which exhibits high stability and negative thermal quenching for application in UV-excited WLEDs. The co-doping of Tb3+ enhances emission intensity of Eu3+ and increases negative thermal quenching.

Summary: Understanding the relationship between structural local symmetry and luminescence characteristics is crucial for designing optical materials. In this study, reddish-orange-emitting phosphors CISO:Sm3+ were successfully synthesized and applied in w-LEDs, showing increasing photoluminescence intensity with temperature rise, high color purity, and proper CIE chromaticity coordinates. These phosphors have great potential as substitutes in horticultural and solid lighting, providing new insights for constructing thermally stable phosphors for optical applications.
