Highly surface-active Si-doped TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterostructure for gas sensing and photodegradation of toxic matters

Qui Thanh Hoai Ta et al.

Summary: Si@TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterostructures were synthesized in situ from Ti3AlC2 MAX phase by combining high-temperature Si diffusion and HF etching. The optimal heterostructure showed semiconductor behavior with enhanced surface area due to the distribution of small TiO2 particles over Ti3C2Tx MXene. The heterostructure exhibited excellent 2,4-Dinitrophenol photodegradation and room-temperature NO2-sensing capabilities, with the photocatalytic degradation attributed to broad light absorption and efficient carrier separation by Schottky contact. Density-functional theory calculations suggested that Si atoms could facilitate NO2 adsorption, highlighting the multi-functionality potential of Si@TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterostructure.

Infrared Polaritonic Biosensors Based on Two-Dimensional Materials

Guangyu Du et al.

Summary: Polaritons in two-dimensional materials have attracted intensive research interests and significant progress in recent years due to their extraordinary properties of light-confinement, tunable carrier concentrations by gating, and low loss absorption. With advantages of biocompatibility, label-free, and chemical identification of biomolecules through their vibrational fingerprints, graphene and related 2D materials can be adapted as excellent platforms for future polaritonic biosensor applications. Extreme spatial light confinement in 2D materials based polaritons supports atto-molar concentration or single molecule detection.

Theoretical assessment of Raman spectra on MXene Ti2C: from monolayer to bilayer

Haiming Huang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the structural, vibrational, and Raman spectra properties of monolayer and bilayer Ti2C under two commonly used laser lines, highlighting the difference in Raman properties due to the symmetry breaking caused by interlayer van der Waals interactions in the bilayer structure. The polarization angle dependent Raman intensity is discussed as a potential method for experimentally identifying monolayer and bilayer Ti2C. The differences in the polarization direction averaged Raman spectra between monolayer and bilayer Ti2C can be explained by the characteristics of light absorbance.
