Flexible polyolefin dielectric by strategic design of organic modules for harsh condition electrification

Ajinkya A. Deshmukh et al.

Summary: In this study, a class of flexible all-organic polyolefins with high thermal stability and electric field endurance was developed through strategic modular structure design. The designed polymer exhibited superior operational temperature and energy density, providing a platform for the development of high performance dielectric materials under extreme thermal and electric field conditions.

Flexible cyclic-olefin with enhanced dipolar relaxation for harsh condition electrification

Chao Wu et al.

Summary: Flexibility, large bandgap, and high thermal stability are achieved simultaneously in the design of a new polymer material m-POFNB for electrification under harsh conditions. The introduction of an asymmetric fluorinated aromatic pendant group on the backbone allows m-POFNB to exhibit high dielectric constant without sacrificing the bandgap. This work provides a new strategy to break the paradox of mutually exclusive constraints between bandgap, dielectric constant, and thermal stability in the design of all-organic polymer dielectrics for harsh condition electrifications.

Charge trap spectroscopy in polymer dielectrics: a critical review

Gilbert Teyssedre et al.

Summary: The trapping phenomena in insulating materials play a crucial role in controlling transport properties, with traps either assisting transport or leading to long-lasting charge storage depending on energy depth. Various techniques are discussed for probing the energetics of traps, focusing on methods involving thermal or optical excitation coupled with electrical or luminescence response. The review also emphasizes the differences in response obtained through various approaches and the impact of distributed trap depths on charge recombination.

Dielectric Polymers Tolerant to Electric Field and Temperature Extremes: Integration of Phenomenology, Informatics, and Experimental Validation

Chao Wu et al.

Summary: A systematic search of polymer chemical space was conducted, starting with experimental measurements and data analysis to identify suitable candidates for high-temperature and high-energy-density capacitor applications. This study led to the establishment of screening criteria, chemical design rules, and a list of optimal polymer candidates, demonstrating the power of integrated and informatics-based rational materials design.
