Novel method for high-performance simultaneous removal of NOx and SO2 by coupling yellow phosphorus emulsion with red mud

Yu Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel method for simultaneous removal of NOx and SO2 from coal-fired flue gas by coupling yellow phosphorus emulsion with red mud. The removal efficiencies of NOx and SO2 were as high as 97.9% and 100%, respectively, under optimized conditions. Characterization of samples before and after the reaction revealed gypsum as the main product after desulfurization and denitrification, and various models for adsorption kinetics were established.

Electrochemical detection of nitrate with carbon nanofibers and copper co-modified carbon fiber electrodes

Guangzhen Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on detecting nitrate ions using carbon fiber microelectrodes. A novel copper/carbon nanofibers/carbon fiber microelectrode (Cu/CNFs/CFE) was designed and used for detecting nitrates in a simple, inexpensive approach. The Cu/CNFs/CFE showed increased sensitivity and lower detection limits compared to bare CFE.

Tetragonal Silicene and Germanene Quantum Dots: Candidates for Enhanced Nonlinear Optical and Photocatalytic Activity

Supriya Ghosal et al.

Summary: Quantum dots based on tetragonal silicene and tetragonal germanene have shown great potential in photonics applications, with their specific electronic energy gaps and optical properties enhancing nonlinear optical characteristics and light-harvesting efficiency. These QDs also exhibit outstanding second- and third-order nonlinear optical responses, making them efficient in nonlinear optical fields and photonics applications. Additionally, their participation in metal-free water splitting photocatalysis contributes towards a pollutant-free green environment.

Topology-dependent conjugation effects in graphdiyne molecular fragments

Patrick Serafini et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structure-property relations in GDY molecular fragments, revealing how the structure can modulate pi-electron conjugation and influence the HOMO-LUMO gap. A topological indicator is computed to show the correlation with the gap and the frequency of the main vibrational mode in Raman spectra, providing insights for guiding the molecular design of new GDY-based carbon materials.

First principles investigation of structural, electronic and optical properties of synthesized radiaannulene oligomers for 6,6,12-graphyne

Subhadip Nath et al.

Summary: This study explores the Raman spectra, electronic, and optical properties of 6,6,12-graphyne oligomers from a theoretical perspective. The experimental yield of the oligomers aligns well with evaluated cohesive energy/atom, and the Raman spectra exhibit signatures of both sp(2) and sp hybridized carbon atoms. The degree of polymerization of the oligomers can be efficiently determined from the Raman active modes, indicating strong optical responses in the visible range and relevance in optoelectronic devices.

Graphdiynes interacting with metal surfaces: first-principles electronic and vibrational properties

Simona Achilli et al.

Summary: Graphdiynes (GDYs) are a class of 2D carbon materials with unique properties based on sp-sp(2) hybridization, capable of self-assembling on metal substrates. Interaction with metal substrates influences the electronic and vibrational properties of GDYs. Density functional theory simulations show that different metal substrates impose varying levels of distortion on GDYs, affecting their bandstructure and Raman spectra. Changes in electronic properties, such as energy shifts and semiconductor-to-metal transitions, are observed along with modifications in Raman active modes. These findings contribute to understanding the effects of metal interaction on GDYs and may lead to the design of novel 2D materials with customized properties.
