Confinement Matters: Stabilization of CdS Nanoparticles inside a Postmodified MOF toward Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Adrija Ghosh et al.

Summary: Insights into developing innovative routes for the stabilization of photogenerated charge-separated states by suppressing charge recombination in photocatalysts is a topic of immense importance. In this study, a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based composite was synthesized, where CdS nanoparticles (NPs) were confined inside the nanosized pores of Zr4+-based MOF-808. The confinement of the CdS NPs inside the MOF pores showed a higher rate of H-2 evolution from water compared to CdS NPs stabilized on the external surface of MOF-808.

Multicarrier Dynamics in Quantum Dots

Christopher Melnychuk et al.

Summary: Multicarrier dynamics in quantum dots are primarily governed by nonradiative Auger processes, impacting the performance of lasers, LEDs, and photodetectors, with implications in fluorescence intermittency phenomena. Understanding of Auger recombination, cooling, and carrier multiplication in quantum dots is important for enhancing device efficiency. Further research is needed to fully comprehend the complexities of multicarrier physics in quantum dots.

Summary: The study shows that p-phenylenediamine (PPD) effectively suppresses the long-lasting dark states of CdSe-based quantum dots, while hardly influencing their other photoluminescence properties. By facilitating electron transfer and neutralizing extra hot holes, PPD can eliminate the positively charged states and photoluminescence intermittency of QDs.
