Beyond sonication: Advanced exfoliation methods for scalable production of 2D materials

Weiran Zheng et al.

Summary: Emerging two-dimensional materials, such as graphene, have shown superiority over conventional bulk materials in various fields. However, scalable production methods are urgently needed to fully utilize their advantages. This study reviews the scalability of different production methods and explores alternative laboratory exfoliation methods beyond sonication. The analysis focuses on the production rate, exfoliation yield, quality uniformity, reproducibility, cost, and tunability, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry for 2D materials production.

Direct Observation of the Light-Induced Exfoliation of Molybdenum Disulfide Sheets in Water Medium

Xueting Zhai et al.

Summary: This study presents a convenient and clean method for exfoliation of MoS2 material, with the exfoliation process directly observed under an optical microscope to reveal the mechanism. The prepared thin-layer nanosheets show improved electrocatalysis activity, enhancing the understanding of the exfoliation process and providing a tool for in situ study of various properties of the exfoliated sheets.

Deuterated Covalent Organic Frameworks with Significantly Enhanced Luminescence

Mengjia Yuan et al.

Summary: By introducing the isotope effect, the luminescence performance of COFs has been significantly improved. The deuterated COF achieved an impressive 19-fold enhancement in quantum yield compared to the non-deuterated counterpart. This strategy is proven to be applicable to many other types of emissive COFs.

Phase-Changing in Graphite Assisted by Interface Charge Injection

Fei Pan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the transition from 3R to 2H phase in graphite can be promoted by changing the charged state of the graphite, lowering the energy barrier. Charge transfer from lithium nitride to graphite can reduce the transition temperature to 350 degrees Celsius. The proposed interlayer slipping model offers potential control over the topological states at the interfaces between different phases.
