Hybridization-Induced Image Potential States with Large Effective Mass in Lead Phthalocyanine Overlayers on Graphene

Impact of molecular distribution on unoccupied image potential states of PbPc/HOPG surfaces

Summary: Two-photon photoemission (2PPE) spectroscopy revealed modified image potential states (IPSs) of submonolayer lead phthalocyanine (PbPc) films on graphite (HOPG). The angle-resolved (AR) 2PPE showed unique energy/momentum maps for room temperature films and cooled films, indicating the presence of IPSs on HOPG areas and PbPc islands. These changes can be explained by simple models of electron scattering by molecular islands. The IPS feature serves as an indicator for nano-scale superstructures, which are not easily assessed by other experiments.
