Charge Separation in Photocatalysts: Mechanisms, Physical Parameters, and Design Principles

Rito Yanagi et al.

Summary: The study discusses the limitations of photocatalysts in terms of quantum yield and inefficient separation of photogenerated charge carriers. Three types of charge-separation modes are identified based on their driving forces, and strategies for improving charge separation in photocatalysts are elucidated and compared. The framework and discussions aim to provide guidance for pursuing efficient photocatalysts.

Shape-Dependent Performance of Cu/Cu2O for Photocatalytic Reduction of CO2

Yuke Zheng et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into solar fuels or chemicals is a sustainable solution to address global warming and the energy crisis. This study investigates the effects of morphological control on a Cu/Cu2O-based photocatalyst for CO2 reduction. The results show that the spherical Cu/Cu2O photocatalyst has higher activity compared to the octahedral one, which can be attributed to the multifaceted structure favoring charge separation and the presence of unfavorable (111) facets in the octahedral Cu/Cu2O.

Controlled Synthesis of Cu0/Cu2O for Efficient Photothermal Catalytic Conversion of CO2 and H2O

Yuke Zheng et al.

Summary: This study synthesized bifunctional Cu-0/Cu2O catalysts for the photothermal conversion of CO2 and H2O, with Cu-0/Cu2O-R2 showing the highest activity. The interface between Cu-0 and Cu2O was found to enhance performance in the directly coupled photothermal catalytic conversion of CO and H2O.

Summary: Electrochemical CO2 reduction using nanosized Cu2O catalysts with different crystal facets showed variations in CO2 reduction performance and alcohol selectivity, with Cu2O-o demonstrating the highest reduction activity and alcohol yield. This work provides a new route for enhancing the alcohol selectivity of nanostructured Cu2O catalysts through crystal facet engineering.
