Interfaces between Different Iron Phthalocyanines and Au(111): Influence of the Fluorination on Structure and Interfacial Interactions

Katharina Greulich et al.

Summary: The interface properties and electronic structures of FePc, FePcF4, and FePcF16 were studied and compared using STM, XPS, and UPS. It was found that fluorination altered the structural ordering and total interface dipole, while the local interactions of the central iron atom with the Au(111) surface remained unchanged. The interplay of substrate-molecule and intermolecular interactions was discussed.

Influence of the Fluorination of Iron Phthalocyanine on the Electronic Structure of the Central Metal Atom

Katharina Greulich et al.

Summary: The electronic structures of iron phthalocyanine (FePc) and perfluorinated iron phthalocyanine (FePcF16) in thin films were studied using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), revealing differences in shape and magnetic moments, with FePc exhibiting stronger magnetic signals at low temperatures. Multiple calculations were used to simulate the XA and XMCD spectra to provide insights into the electronic structures of Fe in FePc and FePcF16, with the arrangement of molecules in thin films playing a crucial role.

Perfluorinated Phthalocyanines on Cu(110) and Cu(110)-(2 x 1)O: The Special Role of the Central Cobalt Atom

Axel Belser et al.

Summary: The interface properties of CoPcF16 on Cu(110) and Cu(110)-(2 x 1)O were investigated using XPS, UPS, XAS, and STM techniques. Charge transfer from both substrates to the central Co ion of CoPcF16 was observed, with a partial suppression of the interaction between CoPcF16 molecules and the Cu(110) substrate by oxygen termination. Additionally, bidirectional charge transfer involving the macrocycle of CoPcF16 molecules was concluded.

A first-principles study of phthalocyanine-based multifunctional spintronic molecular devices

Yang Song et al.

Summary: Theoretical investigation of spin-dependent transport properties of a phthalocyanine molecule sandwiched between zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbon electrodes revealed perfect spin filtering, spin rectifying, and giant magnetoresistance behaviors. Modulation of these properties was achieved by insetting transition metal atoms and controlling the conducting channel through bias polarization. These results provide insights for the design of multifunctional spin molecular devices based on transition metal phthalocyanine.

Interfacial antiferromagnetic coupling and high spin polarization in metallic phthalocyanines

Junwei Tong et al.

Summary: The study reveals that metallic phthalocyanines are antiferromagnetically coupled with oxidized cobalt substrate through the interfacial oxygen atomic layer, with coupling strength depending on the metallic ion type. The physical mechanism for different exchange strengths is explored, and the impact of metallic phthalocyanines on the adsorption energy and work function of oxidized cobalt is noted. High negative spin-polarized spinterfaces are obtained in these metallic phthalocyanines, with spin polarizations reaching up to -86% and -80% for CrPc and MnPc, respectively. The large interfacial coupling energy enables high spin polarization to be maintained beyond room temperature, showing promising potential for the application of metallic phthalocyanines in spintronic devices.
