Huge dielectric constants of the ferroelectric smectic-A phase in bent-shaped dimeric molecules

Shigemasa Nakasugi et al.

Summary: This study explores the dielectric relaxation properties of the ferroelectric SmAP(F) phase formed by bent-shaped dimeric molecules with varying alkyl chain lengths. The phase exhibits a Goldstone-like mode at around 500 Hz and shows significant variation in dielectric strength (Delta epsilon) depending on cell thickness, with values surpassing 7000 in a 50 μm-thick cell.
