Negative thermal expansion of a disordered native protein

Santi Swarupini et al.

Summary: Despite limited research on protein thermal expansion, this study reveals a plant protein that exhibits negative thermal expansion within a specific temperature range without any conformational changes. By analyzing various factors, such as NMR chemical shifts and volume compressibility, the researchers were able to calculate the expansion coefficient and confirm the occurrence of negative thermal expansion in proteins.
