Long-term souring treatment using nitrate and biocides in high-temperature oil reservoirs

Diogo Jurelevicius et al.

Summary: This study investigated the biogenic production of hydrogen sulfide by sulfate-reducing bacteria in high-temperature oil reservoirs over three years, and found that the addition of nitrate and THPS during secondary oil recovery effectively controlled SRB activity. Different dominant bacterial groups, including thermophilic SRB and nitrate-reducing bacteria in oil reservoir 1, and mesophilic SRB in oil reservoir 2, were identified. The choice of strategy during secondary oil recovery modulated the microbial community and altered the dynamics of H2S production.

Uranium bioremediation with U(VI)-reducing bacteria

Wenbo You et al.

Summary: This review systematically summarizes the remediation of U(VI) contamination using microbial reduction, including mechanisms and influencing factors. In situ remediation is shown to be more effective for large-scale degradation of uranium contaminants, but reduction products can be reoxidized when exposed to oxygen and nitrate, compromising the remediation effects.

Long-Term Evolution of Uranium Mobility within Sulfated Mill Tailings in Arid Regions: A Reactive Transport Study

Nicolas Seigneur et al.

Summary: Tailings management is crucial in mining operations to prevent environmental dispersion of contaminants, with geochemical models and reactive transport modeling providing quantitative assessment of contaminant mobility. In arid regions, evaporative processes can lead to specific mineral formations on tailings surfaces, impacting mine management practices.

Souring control in oil fields using molybdate injection: A simulation study

Erisvaldo B. de Jesus et al.

Summary: The study simulated the effect of molybdate ions in treating souring using different injection strategies, finding that the origin and composition of injection water influences the development and activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria, and that adding molybdate during secondary recovery is an effective way to prevent reservoir acidification.

A Review of Geochemical Modeling for the Performance Assessment of Radioactive Waste Disposal in a Subsurface System

Suu-Yan Liang et al.

Summary: Radionuclides are inorganic substances that affect the disposal of radioactive waste and the release of concentrations of radionuclides. The solubility of inorganic substances determines nuclide migration within disposal sites. Variability in environmental factors complicates safety assessments, while focus on radionuclide reactions may overlook the thermodynamics of these processes. Empirical models are commonly used to describe nuclide distributions within geochemical systems. Emerging research focuses on the application of geochemical models and activity coefficient equations to improve safety assessments and environmental management strategies for nuclear waste disposal sites.
