The Psychological Effects of Musculoskeletal Trauma

Kevin K. Kang et al.

Summary: Musculoskeletal injuries can lead to persistent daily pain, opioid dependence, disability, and psychological issues such as depression and anxiety. Early psychological intervention in orthopaedic trauma care can improve overall health outcomes and help individuals return to their daily routine more effectively. Raised awareness of psychological effects of trauma within the orthopaedic community could lead to improved post-treatment planning and earlier effective interventions.

Characteristics and Prognostic Factors for Return to Work in Public Safety Personnel with Work-Related Posttraumatic Stress Injury Undergoing Rehabilitation

Douglas P. Gross et al.

Summary: The study found that PSP were more likely to be diagnosed with psychological injuries than musculoskeletal injuries compared to non-PSP workers, and most of them did not return to work in full after rehabilitation. Factors predicting return to work included shorter injury duration, primary mental health diagnosis, working at time of admission and not having symptoms requiring treatment in a complex rehabilitation program.
