Mobility of screw dislocation in BCC tungsten at high temperature in presence of carbon

Guillaume Hachet et al.

Summary: The study investigated the interaction of screw dislocations with carbon atoms in tungsten at high temperatures through in situ straining experiments and ab initio calculations. It was found that even low concentrations of carbon can significantly impact the mobility of screw dislocations, and the reappearance of Peierls mechanism was observed at high temperatures. The mobility of carbon-saturated screw dislocations was analyzed to determine kink-pair formation, nucleation, and migration energies, with the obtained results aligning well with experimental observations.

Recent progress in the assessment of irradiation effects for in-vessel fusion materials: tungsten and copper alloys

D. Terentyev et al.

Summary: This contribution presents the results of recent irradiation campaigns on advanced tungsten and copper-based materials, which are main candidates for use in plasma-facing components. The challenges of the irradiation programme include evaluating the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of newly developed tungsten-based materials, investigating the performance of industrial pure tungsten grade under high temperature irradiation, and assessing the high temperature strength of CuCrZr-based alloys and composites.

Structural lifetime assessment for the DEMO divertor targets: Design-by-analysis approach and outstanding issues

Jeong-Ha You et al.

Summary: Divertor targets in a nuclear fusion reactor are exposed to harsh loading environments and must ensure structural integrity against complex failure modes. Lifetime assessment can be done through experimental tests or computational analyses, but limitations exist due to gaps in materials properties and predictive capabilities of simulation tools.
