Thermodynamic model to predict bulk metallic glass forming composition in Zr-Cu-Fe-Al system and understanding the role of Dy addition

Yogesh Prabhu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a theoretical approach to design Zr-rich glass forming composition in Ni-free Zr-Cu-Al-Fe quaternary system and analyzes the effects of elemental Al, Fe, and Dy on glass forming ability. By optimizing chemical interactions and topological features, the enthalpy of chemical mixing and atomic size mismatch entropy were determined, leading to the synthesis of Zr62Cu22Al10Fe5Dy1 bulk metallic glass.

Phase equilibria of the Cu-Zr-Ti ternary system at 703 °C and the thermodynamic assessment and metallic glass region prediction of the Cu- Zr-Ti ternary system

Gita Novian Hermana et al.

Summary: Cu-Zr-Ti alloys are popular metallic glass systems known for their high GFA, lower cost, and good mechanical properties. Experimental investigations of the phase equilibria revealed 15 single phases, including the ternary phase-Cu2TiZr, at 703 degrees C. The CALPHAD method successfully predicted the metallic-glass region based on suppressed intermetallic compounds, liquid miscibility gap, and spinodal curve.

Bulk metallic glass composites containing B2 phase

Yu Chen et al.

Summary: BMGs' brittleness and work-softening hinder their wide applications as structural engineering materials, but can be improved by introducing the B2 phase to enhance plastic deformation and work-hardening. Although progress has been made, achieving enhanced tensile ductility and work-hardening in BMG composites remains a challenge.
