Higher Monocyte Count is Associated with 30-Day Case Fatality in Intracerebral Hemorrhage

Jason Mackey et al.

Summary: In this study, elevated monocytes were found to be independently associated with 30-day case fatality in intracerebral hemorrhage patients. Other independent factors associated with case fatality included age over 80, higher NIHSS scores, larger ICH volume, non-lobar location, intraventricular hemorrhage, and anticoagulant use. The study did not find a significant association between elevated neutrophils, monocytes, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with higher case fatality. Future research will focus on whether there are specific subgroups of ICH patients where white blood cell types can help predict poor outcomes and guide intervention strategies.
