Delirium in acute stroke: A prospective, cross-sectional, cohort study

Eleonora Rollo et al.

Summary: The study found that approximately one-third (30%) of acute stroke patients experienced delirium. Delirium was associated with speech disorder, leukoencephalopathy, COPD, and early use of physical restraint, while diabetes was associated with a lower incidence of delirium.

Course and Recognition of Poststroke Delirium A Prospective Noninferiority Trial of Delirium Screening Tools

Robert Fleischmann et al.

Summary: Poststroke delirium is a common complication with a high incidence rate of 39%, but detection is challenging due to various factors, requiring at least daily screenings. Age and stroke severity are predictors of PSD.

Long-Term Outcomes in ICU Patients with Delirium A Population-based Cohort Study

Kirsten M. Fiest et al.

Summary: ICU delirium is associated with increased mortality in the first 30 days after hospital discharge, while there is no significant difference in mortality after 30 days. Throughout the study period, ICU delirium remains a risk factor for subsequent emergency department visits, hospital readmissions, or mortality.

Impact of Delirium and Its Motor Subtypes on Stroke Outcomes

Iva Taiuan Fialho Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence of delirium and its different motor subtypes in stroke patients and their impact on prognosis. Delirium was found to be associated with an increased risk of death and functional dependence at 30 and 90 days, as well as higher 90-day mortality. Specifically, the occurrence of mixed and hypoactive subtypes seemed to predict worse outcomes in this population.

Delirium is associated with an increased morbidity and in-hospital mortality in cancer patients: Results from a prospective cohort study

Annina Seiler et al.

Summary: This study found that delirium is common in cancer patients and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Systematically categorizing predisposing and precipitating factors may lead to new strategies for preventing and managing delirium in cancer patients.
