Elasticity of selected icy satellite candidate materials (CO2, C6H6, MgSO4•7H2O and CaSO4•2H2O) revisited by dispersion corrected density functional theory

Johannes M. Meusburger et al.

Summary: Seismic studies rely on modeling to interpret planetary interior structures, making the study of elastic properties of potential icy ocean world minerals crucial. First-principles computer simulations, particularly focusing on simulating dispersion forces in loosely-bonded molecular solids, are assessed in this paper. The performance of dispersion corrected approaches in modeling experimental density profiles is demonstrated, with potential applications in exploring compressive parameters of candidate materials for rheological models of icy ocean worlds.

The origin of the dual ferroic properties in quasi-centrosymmetrical SrFe12-xInxO19 hexaferrites

A. Trukhanov et al.

Summary: The local crystal/magnetic structures of SrFe12-xInxO19 solid solutions were investigated using neutron powder diffraction, revealing the presence of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic ordering. The existence of a nonzero dipole moment in SrFe12-xInxO19 hexaferrites remains controversial, with a possible connection to unequal distortions of neighbor oxygen polyhedra. The formation of the nonzero dipole moment in In-substituted SrFe12-xInxO19 hexaferrites was described based on neutron diffraction data.

Dark Self-Healing-Mediated Negative Photoconductivity of a Lead-Free Cs3Bi2Cl9 Perovskite Single Crystal

Naveen Kumar Tailor et al.

Summary: Lead-free Cs3Bi2Cl9 perovskite exhibits light-induced negative photoconductivity with slow recovery, attributed to the formation of light-activated metastable trap states within the crystal. Studies using femtosecond transient reflectance spectroscopy reveal the unique electronic transport properties of Cs3Bi2Cl9 single crystals, which show retroactive photocurrent upon irradiation. The figure of merits for Cs3Bi2Cl9 single-crystal detectors, including responsivity, detectivity, and current ratio, demonstrate the potential of this material for device applications.
