A new analysis method for evaluating bacterial growth with microplate readers

Venkata Rao Krishnamurthi et al.

Summary: The article introduces a method based on the time derivatives of optical density and fluorescence to overcome barriers in evaluating bacterial growth with microplate readers. By using models and simulations, the relationship between bacterial growth, the number of fluorescent proteins, and their time derivatives were studied. The method was successfully applied to extract bacterial growth behavior and understand the effects of factors such as silver ions and silver nanoparticles.

Use of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans in the Recovery of Heavy Metals from Landfill Leachates

Tomasz Kamizela et al.

Summary: Bioleaching and biosorption methods are commonly used to remove metals from landfill leachates, with the addition of sulfuric acid and sulfur proving to be effective in enhancing removal efficiency. Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans bacteria showed the best bioleaching efficiency for reverse osmosis effluents among the bacteria studied.

Bioleaching of metals from machining process wastes

M. Gomez-Ramirez et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the bioleaching capability of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans DSM 26636 from industrial wastes with different metal compositions. Results showed higher sulfur-oxidizing activity in the presence of IW-steel than IW-scrap, with significant differences in sulfate production, pH changes, and metal removal between the two waste types. This highlights the potential of A. thiooxidans DSM 26636 for bio-treatment of high-metal-content industrial residues, depending on the metal load present.
