Solidification of heavy metals and PCDD/Fs from municipal solid waste incineration fly ash by the polymerization of calcium carbonate oligomers

Xiaoqing Lin et al.

Summary: Calcium carbonate oligomers can be crystallized to solidify heavy metals in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash, and the addition of calcium chloride improves the solidification effect. Increasing the calcium amount enhances the solidification efficiency, while water-washing pretreatment significantly improves the solidification effect on heavy metals.

Solidification of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash and immobilization of heavy metals using waste glass in alkaline activation system

Xiang Tian et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the addition of waste glass effectively strengthens Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) fly ash and immobilizes the heavy metals within it. Experimental results show that the immobilization efficiency of chromium increases with the addition of waste glass, while the efficiency of copper, lead, zinc, and cadmium depends on the final pH of the eluant.

Summary: Thermal treatment is an effective method to detoxify municipal solid waste incineration fly ash and produce secondary materials for recycling. Co-treating fly ash with sewage sludge can reduce energy consumption and control heavy metals leaching, significantly lowering ash fusion temperatures and increasing removal efficiency of chlorine. This method also effectively solidifies heavy metals into minerals or aluminosilicates, meeting standards for construction material use in China.

Integrated thermal behavior and compounds transition mechanism of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash during thermal treatment process

Xuexue Wang et al.

Summary: The thermal behavior of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash is complex due to simultaneous reactive processes and different chemical compositions of products. The study focused on investigating the transition behavior and mechanism of chemical compounds during the integrated thermal process. Malek method was introduced to explore the multi-step reaction mechanism for fly ash, revealing mineral transitions and reduced heavy metal leaching concentrations with increasing temperature. The kinetic study showed that the mineral transition process aligned well with the simulated reaction mechanism during thermal treatment.
