2.56W Single-Frequency All-Fiber Oscillator at 1720 nm

Junxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This article introduces a method of achieving single-frequency operation in fiber lasers using the saturable absorption effect of unpumped, rare earth-doped fiber. The characteristics of the saturable absorption effect in thulium-doped fiber are studied, and the oscillating state and frequency output characteristics of the laser are manipulated by injecting auxiliary pump light to the saturable absorber. A record single-frequency output power of 2.56W at 1720 nm is obtained.

Single-frequency 1.7-μm Tm-doped fiber laser with optical bistability of both power and longitudinal mode behavior

Junxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The single-frequency operation of a thulium fiber laser at a short wavelength of 1720 nm was investigated, achieving powerful single-longitudinal-mode operation using an unpumped thulium-doped fiber as the saturable absorber. The fiber laser delivered 407 mW single-frequency output with a spectral linewidth of 4.4 kHz under 2.7-W launched pump power at 1570 nm, transitioning to multi-longitudinal-mode operation at higher pump powers, with optical bistability observed.

Watt-level 1.7-μm single-frequency thulium-doped fiber oscillator

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient high-power single-frequency thulium-doped fiber ring laser operating at 1720 nm was demonstrated. By inserting three cascaded sub-rings and incorporating a fiber Bragg grating, single longitudinal mode operation was achieved. The maximum single-frequency output power reached 1.11 W with a slope efficiency of 46.4%, and the laser linewidth at maximum power was measured to be 1.9 kHz. The potential power scaling of the single-frequency output power with different quantity and lengths of sub-rings was also theoretically investigated.

1.7-μm Tm-doped fiber laser intracavity-pumped by an erbium/ytterbium-codoped fiber laser

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient 1.7-micron Tm-doped fiber laser with bidirectional pumping embedded in a 1560 nm erbium/ytterbium-codoped fiber laser cavity. A rate equation model was developed to optimize fiber length and output coupling for desired power, achieving a maximum output power at 1720 nm of 1.13 W. High signal-to-noise ratio and potential for further power scaling were also discussed.
