Rapid fabrication of fluorinated covalent organic polymer membranes for organic solvent nanofiltration

Fadhilah Alduraiei et al.

Summary: Covalent organic polymers (COPs) with permanent pores are prepared via non-uniform covalent assembly of organic building blocks, making them suitable for diverse applications. In this study, a rapid synthesis route for COP-based composite membranes was demonstrated using interfacial polymerization. The membranes were prepared directly on a polyacrylonitrile substrate and exhibited good hydrophobicity. The obtained solvent-resistant composite membranes showed high toluene permeance and rejection levels for congo red.

A novel ceramic-based thin-film composite nanofiltration membrane with enhanced performance and regeneration potential

Daliang Xu et al.

Summary: A high-performance ceramic-based thin-film composite membrane is fabricated via interfacial polymerization on a titanium dioxide nanowire assembled net substrate. The membrane exhibits high permeance and excellent salt rejection efficiency, thanks to the improved hydrophilicity and smooth surface of the ceramic substrate. Furthermore, the membrane has potential regeneration ability through low-temperature calcination and re-polymerization, prolonging the lifetime and reducing the cost.

Stainless steel mesh supported thin-film composite nanofiltration membranes for enhanced permeability and regeneration potential

Xuewu Zhu et al.

Summary: This study successfully constructed a PA film on a PVA-decorated SSL support to create the PA-SSL membrane, which exhibited excellent permeability and regeneration properties. Through various analyses and tests, the superior performance and stability of the membrane were confirmed. The strategy of calcination and recoating allowed the membrane to maintain excellent separation performance even after 5 cycles of regeneration.

Fabricating novel high-performance thin-film composite forward osmosis membrane with designed sulfonated covalent organic frameworks as interlayer

Yasan He et al.

Summary: A novel highly selective thin-film composite (TFC) forward osmosis (FO) membrane with high water flux and low reverse salt flux was successfully fabricated by using a rationally designed sulfonated covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as an interlayer. The prepared membrane overcame the trade-off between water flux and salt flux with enhanced FO permeation and superior selectivity in FO mode, demonstrating the crucial role of sulfonated COF interlayer and TMC modification of nylon support in achieving high performance. This new strategy opens up a pathway for utilizing COFs in preparing high-performance FO membranes.

Enhanced removal of hydrophobic endocrine disrupting compounds from wastewater by nanofiltration membranes intercalated with hydrophilic MoS2 nanosheets: Role of surface properties and internal nanochannels

Ruobin Dai et al.

Summary: Introducing MoS2 nanosheets into PA NF membrane enhanced water permeance, EDC rejection, and water/EDC selectivity. The enhanced EDC rejection was due to suppressed hydrophobic interaction and selective effect by MoS2 nanosheets-induced nanochannels. Selective nanochannels played a more important role than hydrophilic surface in impeding the transport of EDCs across the PA layer.
