Permeability control and flood risk assessment of urban underlying surface: a case study of Runcheng south area, Kunming

Tong Xu et al.

Summary: As a result of climate change and rapid urbanization, Chinese cities have been greatly impacted by flood disasters. Research on urban flood risks has increased as a result, with studies focusing on reducing the risk of flood disaster. This study investigated the impact of continuous changes in the urban underlying surface on flood disasters in the Runcheng area south of Kunming City from 2012 to 2020, finding that an increase in permeable underlying surface can reduce urban flood risk.

Evolutions of 30-Year Spatio-Temporal Distribution and Influencing Factors of Suaeda salsa in Bohai Bay, China

Hongyan Yin et al.

Summary: Suaeda salsa, as a pioneer species in coastal wetlands, has faced significant habitat threats in the Bohai Bay region, leading to a drastic decrease in its area. Among the natural influencing factors, precipitation, temperature, elevation, and distance to the coastline are considered to be the major factors affecting the changes in Suaeda salsa.

How do rural-urban linkages change after an extreme flood event? Empirical evidence from rural communities in Pakistan

Ali Jamshed et al.

Summary: This study explores the impacts of flooding on rural-urban linkages in Pakistan and investigates the social, economic, and spatial factors that can influence these linkages. The findings show that flooding severely affects rural communities, both directly and indirectly. Additionally, factors such as age, education, income, and occupation play a significant role in how rural-urban linkages change.

Evaluating the runoff storage supply-demand structure of green infrastructure for urban flood management

Chunlin Li et al.

Summary: Rapid urbanization has reduced green infrastructure and increased urban flood risks. A study evaluating the runoff storage supply-demand structure in Shenyang found limited and fragmented runoff storage supply in the city center, with significantly higher demand compared to suburban areas. As rainfall increases, the supply decreases and demand rises, challenging the balance between supply and demand.

Do we prioritize floodplains for development and farming? Mapping global dependence and exposure to inundation

Rachel Dryden et al.

Summary: Global wetlands and floodplains provide benefits and risks for human society. Alterations in flow regimes and increased drought conditions are expected to impact the natural inundation cycle and ecosystem services. Human populations, urban areas, roads, and agriculture tend to be located within inundation areas, making them highly susceptible to future changes in flood regimes.

High-resolution mapping of mainland China's urban floor area

Miao Liu et al.

Summary: This study established a model to predict the urban floor area in mainland China using remote sensing data, resulting in the generation of the FPFA map. The distribution of floor area was found to be uneven, with higher intensity in the southern urban areas along the coastline compared to the northern regions, and significant disparities among provinces.

Investigating the influence of three-dimensional building configuration on urban pluvial flooding using random forest algorithm

Jinyao Lin et al.

Summary: Urban pluvial flooding poses a serious threat to environmental conditions and human lives, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors, with the influence of building configuration often overlooked. Factors such as building density, congestion degree, and coverage ratio have significant impact on pluvial flooding.

Review article: A systematic review and future prospects of flood vulnerability indices

Luana Lavagnoli Moreira et al.

Summary: Research on flood vulnerability has been rapidly increasing, with common methods including min-max normalization, equal weighting, and linear aggregation. Studies primarily focus on socioeconomic aspects, while aspects related to citizen coping and adaptive capacity require further attention. Various gaps and challenges in current research call for a more theoretically grounded and dynamic approach to studying flood vulnerability.

The rabies distribution pattern on dogs using average nearest neighbor analysis approach in the Karangasem District, Bali, Indonesia, in 2019

Serli Eka Melyantono et al.

Summary: The study described the spatial distribution of rabies in Karangasem District, revealing a clustered distribution of rabies with significant dispersion in certain subdistricts. Uncontrolled stray dogs were identified as the main cause of dispersed rabies cases in the subdistricts. The findings suggest that vaccination, elimination, and sterilization of stray dogs should be prioritized in densely populated areas for effective rabies control in Karangasem District.
