The fetal origins of disease: a prospective cohort study on the association of preeclampsia and childhood obesity

Summary: This study analyzed the association between preeclampsia and childhood excess weight/obesity, while controlling for important confounders. The study found that offspring of preeclamptic mothers had higher BMI z-scores and were more likely classified as overweight/obese at age 10, but these differences were not statistically significant. The study also found that the previously described confounders had a significant association with childhood obesity, suggesting that the impact of in utero exposure to preeclampsia on childhood obesity is less than these confounders.

Early-life exposures and age at thelarche in the Sister Study cohort

Summary: The study found that early thelarche is associated with multiple prenatal exposures such as gestational hypertensive disorder, smoking during pregnancy, and young maternal age. Additionally, birthweight and soy formula use in infancy are also positively associated with both early and late thelarche, indicating the influence of early-life environment on breast development and potential impact on breast cancer risk.
