Photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin & norfloxacin and disinfection studies under solar light using boron & cerium doped TiO2 catalysts synthesized by green EDTA-citrate method

M. Manasa et al.

Summary: Four different boron and cerium doped TiO2 photocatalysts were synthesized by the EDTA-citrate method and studied for degradation of two common fluoroquinolone-based antibiotics under sunlight. The synthesized catalysts showed 90-93% degradation for both antibiotics and demonstrated stability up to three consecutive runs, with e- and OH identified as the dominant species responsible for the photocatalytic activity. These catalysts also showed efficient disinfection capabilities against E.coli under solar light.

Fabrication of ferrous tungstate with enhanced sonocatalytic performance for meloxicam removal

Liang Xu et al.

Summary: Composites of ferrous tungstate were prepared as a sonocatalyst for degrading meloxicam in water, with careful control of morphology through adjusting the acidity of the reaction solution. The FeWO4 materials synthesized at different pH values showed varying sonocatalytic performance on meloxicam degradation, with FeWO4 synthesized at pH 6 displaying the highest efficiency. This study demonstrates the potential of FeWO4 as a stable and effective sonocatalyst for degrading meloxicam using ultrasound.

Preparation of Cobalt tungstate nanomaterials and study on sonocatalytic degradation of Safranin t

Liang Xu et al.

Summary: CoWO4 nanoparticles prepared with different doses of surfactant SDS showed good sonocatalytic performance in the degradation of dye Safranin T (ST). The optimum degradation conditions were found to be CoWO4 with 0.5 g SDS (CoWO4-0.5), 1.0 g/L CoWO4-0.5, initial dye concentration of 15 mg/L, and 160 W ultrasonic power. Additionally, there was a significant synergistic effect between CoWO4-0.5 and ultrasound, with the degradation of ST mainly attributed to the generation of hydroxyl radicals and other reactive oxygen species.

Degradation of amoxicillin with sono, photo, and sonophotocatalytic oxidation under low-frequency ultrasound and visible light

Ansaf Karim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of amoxicillin using a novel multifrequency reactor with photocatalytic, sonocatalytic, and sonophotocatalytic oxidation processes. Sonophotocatalytic oxidation was found to be the most efficient method, likely due to reduced bandgap of the catalyst, enhanced cavitation effect, and improved mass transfer. Pseudo-first-order kinetics and empirical kinetic models were used to predict degradation efficiency, and scavenger experiments suggested that center dot OH radicals played a major role in the degradation process. Proposed degradation mechanisms and pathways for all three treatment processes were also outlined based on identified degradation products.
