Stress proteins, nonribosomal peptide synthetases, and polyketide synthases regulate carbon sources-mediated bio-demulsifying mechanisms of nitrate-reducing bacterium Gordonia sp. TD-4

Panqing Qi et al.

Summary: This study reveals the synergistic effects of nitrogen and carbon sources on the regulation of bio-demulsifying mechanisms by TD-4. Oil-soluble carbon sources mediate competitive adsorption-derived demulsification, while water-soluble carbon sources mediate bio-flocculation-derived demulsification. Nitrate reduction leads to the accumulation of nitrite, triggering stress response and upregulation of chaperone-associated genes, ultimately affecting bio-demulsifying mechanisms.

Enhanced oil recovery using hyperbranched polyglycerol polymer-coated silica nanoparticles

Wamda Faisal Elmobarak et al.

Summary: Functionalized Fe3O4-SiO2 magnetic nanoparticles coated with hyperbranched polyglycerol polymer were developed for oil recovery from oil in water emulsions. The newly developed demulsifier PSiMNPs showed high efficiency in demulsification and can be reused multiple times. The surface modification of PSiMNPs enhanced oil adsorption, increased adsorption capacity, and extended service life, resulting in improved cost and process feasibility for oil recovery applications.

Magnetically Recyclable Graphene Oxide Demulsifier Adapting Wide pH Conditions on Detachment of Oil in the Crude Oil-in-Water Emulsion

Haiyan Xu et al.

Summary: An amphiphilic and magnetically recyclable graphene oxide demulsifier was synthesized by grafting magnetic nanoparticles and ethylenediamine onto the GO surface, exhibiting favorable demulsification performance for crude oil-in-water emulsions under various pH conditions. The MR-GO can be reused multiple times with consistent high demulsification efficiency. Through a combination of interfacial adsorption interactions, electrostatic attraction, and external mechanical forces, the demulsifier disrupts and stabilizes the emulsion interface, facilitating the rapid gathering of oil droplets to accomplish demulsification.

Summary: Fe-Si-MNPs with a 5 nm silica layer showed the highest oil separation rate of around 96.3%, protected from oxidation and extended service life. Increasing silica layer thickness or alkaline pH decreased %S-oil. Different Fe-Si-MNPs exhibited varying oil separation performance under different water salinity levels and oil concentrations.
