Effect of green tea extract on gelatin-based films incorporated with lemon essential oil

Juliana Carla Nunes et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of green tea extract and lemon nanoemulsion on mechanical, thermal and permeability properties of gelatin matrix. Results showed that green tea increased the tensile strength of gelatin while the nanoemulsion decreased it, also enhancing the water vapor permeability of gelatin film. Changes in FTIR spectra of gelatin film were observed when the green tea and nanoemulsion were incorporated, suggesting a potential for edible film application.

Preparation, characterization, and 3D printing verification of chitosan/halloysite nanotubes/tea polyphenol nanocomposite films

Yihao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan/halloysite nanotubes/tea polyphenol (CS/HNTs/TP) nanocomposite films were prepared and characterized. The optimal C6H4-TP10 film showed improved water vapor barrier property, decreased swelling degree and water solubility, and exhibited good antioxidant and antibacterial capacities. The study demonstrates a simple approach to construct promising natural antioxidants and antibacterial food packaging.

3D printed corn starch-gelatin film with glycerol and hawthorn berry (Crataegus pinnatifida) extract

Zhee Enn Leaw et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of glycerol and hawthorn berry extract on 3D-printed CSG edible films, demonstrating improved physical, mechanical, and antimicrobial properties with increased glycerol concentration. Films with 6% HBE showed good tensile strength and %E, making it the ideal formulation for 3D-printed CSG films. Films containing 4% glycerol and 6% HBE exhibited antibacterial properties against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, suggesting potential for use in antibacterial food packaging.
