The genetic architecture of flowering time changes in pea from wild to crop

Owen Williams et al.

Summary: This study found that changes in flowering time in domesticated pea are controlled by four loci, including apparent gain-of-function variants of three florigen genes. This suggests a conserved route to reduced photoperiod sensitivity and early phenology in temperate pulses.

Circadian Clock Components Offer Targets for Crop Domestication and Improvement

C. Robertson McClung

Summary: During plant domestication and improvement, certain alleles are selected for and enriched in elite cultivars, leading to adaptations for optimal performance in different environments; The circadian clock plays a crucial role in coordinating various aspects of plant growth, metabolism and responses to stresses, and has been a target for breeding strategies to improve crop performance.
