Is serotonin uptake by peripheral tissues sensitive to hypoxia exposure?

Molly H. B. Amador et al.

Summary: In the Gulf toadfish, exposure to hypoxia increases the uptake of 5-HT by the heart to prevent vasoconstriction in the gills. However, there are no effects of hypoxia on 5-HT uptake in other tissues.

Summary: This experiment showed that transporter-mediated 5-HT uptake plays an important role in controlling circulating 5-HT and whole body 5-HT homeostasis in Gulf toadfish.
