A comprehensive review on anthropogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission estimates in China: Comparison and outlook

Bowei Li et al.

Summary: Accurate measurement and estimation of VOCs emissions in China are crucial for effective pollution control measures. This study reviewed two estimation methods and found that emissions have been increasing since 1949. Industrial and solvent use contributions to VOCs emissions are increasing, while transportation sector contributions are decreasing since 2000. Spatially, hotspots of emissions are concentrated in eastern China.

Three-wavelength optical sensor for measuring distributed mass concentrations of aerosols from stationary sources

Xiao Xiao et al.

Summary: The study introduced a novel three-wavelength photoelectric sensor to measure the mass concentration and particle size distribution (PSD) of aerosols emitted by stationary sources, providing a comprehensive assessment of pollutants. The sensor successfully determined the mean particle size, standard deviation of PSDs, and adjusted coefficients for measuring mass concentration accurately based on light intensity.

Enhanced gas sensing performance based on the PtCu octahedral alloy nanocrystals decorated SnO2 nanoclusters

Jihao Bai et al.

Summary: The successful preparation of small-size monodispersed octahedral PtxCu1+x nanocrystals by alloying Pt with Cu and adjusting the composition, applied in gas sensors, demonstrates improved gas sensing performance and effective detection of diabetic ketosis. The synergy between heterogeneous atoms enhances catalytic activity, reducing Pt loading while achieving better utilization in catalytic reactions.

Source apportionment of VOCs in a typical medium-sized city in North China Plain and implications on control policy

Juanjuan Qin et al.

Summary: The study conducted research on potential sources of VOCs in a medium-sized city of North China Plain, indicating VOCs are mainly influenced by local emissions with significant transport from the southeast direction. By source analysis, combustion and LPG usage were identified as the dominant VOC sources.

Enhanced temperature stability of compensated pyroelectric infrared detector based on Mn:PMN-PT single crystals

Jing Zhao et al.

Summary: A compensated pyroelectric detector based on Mn:PMN-PT single crystals was prepared, with the addition of a compensating element showing no effect on the output signal amplitude and the signal amplitude increasing linearly with temperature in the range of -10 to +40 degrees Celsius. The compensated detector exhibited more stable output compared to the uncompensated one as ambient temperature changes, making it more suitable for practical applications.

Mixed potential type NH3 sensor based on YSZ solid electrolyte and metal oxides (NiO, SnO2, WO3) modified FeVO4 sensing electrodes

Qi Lu et al.

Summary: The YSZ-based mixed potential type NH3 sensor has a promising application in on-board SCR systems due to its good thermal and chemical stability. By developing high-performance sensing electrode materials, the NH3 sensing performance of this sensor was significantly improved. The sensor modified with 20 mol.% NiO exhibited the highest response to 100 ppm NH3, with a low detection limit of 5 ppm, showing potential for in-situ ammonia monitoring in industrial and automotive applications.

A Build-In Data Inversion Method to Retrieve Aerosol Size Distributions for a Portable Ultrafine Particle Sizer (PUPS)

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: An internal data inversion method based on the principle of particle electrical mobility has been introduced for retrieving aerosol size distributions using PUPS, with low computational effort. The method consists of a unipolar charger, PDMA, and FCE, with a guidance method proposed for selecting PDMA operating parameters with the help of MATLAB. By employing NNLS algorithm and post facto smoothing method, the accuracy and stability of the proposed approach have been tested under various particle size distribution scenarios, showing relative errors of less than 20% for unimodal aerosol distribution.
