Phytolectin nanoconjugates in combination with standard antifungals curb multi-species biofilms and virulence of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) causing Candida albicans and non-albicans Candida

Jayasankari Senthilganesh et al.

Summary: The study focuses on using lectin-conjugated copper sulfide nanoparticles to eradicate fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans and Candida glabrata biofilms causing VVC. The results suggest that this approach may be a different means to disrupt the Candida spp. population causing VVC.

Lamotrigine Nanoparticle Laden Polymer Composite Oral Dissolving Films for Improving Therapeutic Potential of the Hydrophobic Antiepileptic Molecule

Shruthi Shankar Raman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the solubility and dissolution kinetics of Lamotrigine by combining Lamotrigine nanoparticles with polymer composite oral dissolving film. The optimized polymeric nanoparticles exhibited monodispersed particles with high entrapment efficiency, while the composite oral films showed significantly higher drug release compared to pure drug. The nanoparticles displayed mild drug-polymer interactions, enhanced solubility and dissolution of the drug, and lower cytotoxicity to normal cells, suggesting their potential for in vivo administration.

Chitosan coated catheters alleviates mixed species biofilms of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans

Durairajan Rubini et al.

Summary: Chitosan extracted from marine crab shells was successfully coated on urinary catheters, demonstrating effectiveness in inhibiting biofilm adherence and reducing virulence factors of the pathogens. Additionally, EC could downregulate virulence genes of the pathogens in biofilms, both mono and mixed species.

pH-sensitive chitosan nanoparticles loaded with dolutegravir as milk and food admixture for paediatric anti-HIV therapy

K. Priya Dharshini et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop Chitosan-based polymeric nanoparticles of anti-HIV drug Dolutegravir, which showed improved therapeutic efficiency and lesser cytotoxicity compared to the pure drug in treating HIV-infected T-lymphatic cell lines. The use of Chitosan from a novel source for drug delivery carrier has opened exceptional prospects for delivering drugs efficiently to paediatrics.
