Linear Polyglycerol for N-terminal-selective Modification of Interleukin-4

Michael Tully et al.

Summary: Polymer conjugation to biologics is crucial for the development of potent and long acting biotherapeutics. In this study, the potential of linear polyglycerol (LPG) as an alternative polymer to poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) was investigated. The results showed that LPG and PEG bioconjugates exhibited similar conjugation yields, hydrodynamic sizes, and protein activity. These findings provide promising insights for future pharmacokinetic evaluation of LPG-bioconjugates of therapeutic proteins.

Reincarnation of the Analytical Ultracentrifuge: Emerging Opportunities for Nanomedicine

Olenka Jibaja Valderrama et al.

Summary: The field of analytical ultracentrifugation, which originated approximately a century ago, is focused on the major experimental opportunities for polymers, polymer-drug conjugates, polymer assemblies, and medical nanoparticles. Special focus is on molar mass estimates of polymeric species, self-assemblies in solution, and localization of multicomponent systems in solution, with attention to material-biofluid interactions. The current challenges and future research incentives are also highlighted.

Inhibition of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 Attachment and Infection by Sulfated Polyglycerols with Different Architectures

Paria Pouyan et al.

Summary: Inhibition of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) binding to host cells using highly sulfated structures is a promising strategy to prevent virus entry and infection. The study demonstrated that more flexible polyglycerol sulfates are superior in inhibiting HSV-1 infection compared to less flexible sulfated polymers, suggesting they could be an alternative to current antiviral treatments.
