Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into CH4 over Ru-doped TiO2: Synergy of Ru and oxygen vacancies

Yimeng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study presents a synthesis of defected TiO2 nanocrystals with oxygen vacancies induced by Ru doping, which enhances the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CH4. The synergistic effect of Ru and oxygen vacancies promotes the separation of photogenerated carriers and CO2 adsorption, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activities. The optimal Ru-doped TiO2 showed significantly higher CH4 yield than the counterparts, indicating the potential of metal oxide photocatalysts with oxygen vacancies for efficient CO2 conversion.
