Recent applications of retention modelling in liquid chromatography

Mimi J. den Uijl et al.

Summary: This review comprehensively examines the recent applications of retention modeling in liquid chromatography from 2015 to 2020, summarizing the fundamentals of the field and discussing various common retention models and their practical applications. The effects of mobile-phase composition on retention, as well as other variables and novel models, are considered, with a focus on method development and optimization, retention-mechanism studies, and stationary-phase characterization.

Detection challenges in quantitative polymer analysis by liquid chromatography

Wouter C. Knol et al.

Summary: Accurate quantification of complex polymers in liquid chromatography is a challenging task, often relying on refractive index detection which is limited by unknown refractive index increment. New detection methods are being reviewed to improve quantitative analysis of complex polymers.

Reducing the influence of geometry-induced gradient deformation in liquid chromatographic retention modelling

Tijmen S. Bos et al.

Summary: This study develops an algorithm based on response functions to correct gradient deformations caused by specific LC instruments for analyte retention parameters. The stable function was found to accurately describe the formed gradient. The algorithm significantly reduces the relative error in predicting retention times on different instruments and minimizes the dependency on geometry-induced instrument effects.

Charge-Based Separation of Acid-Functional Polymers by Non-aqueous Capillary Electrophoresis Employing Deprotonation and Heteroconjugation Approaches

Ton Brooijmans et al.

Summary: Water-borne polymers are in increasing demand due to their eco-friendly profile. Non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis was developed for selective analysis of incorporated acidic monomers. Two approaches were compared, showing that polymers with different compositions and acid contents can be effectively separated based on charge-to-size ratio by NACE.
