Unsupervised topological learning approach of crystal nucleation

Sebastien Becker et al.

Summary: This article discusses the importance of nucleation phenomena and the difficulty in unraveling their mechanisms. By applying an unsupervised learning approach based on topological descriptors, simulations of monatomic metals reveal that both translational and orientational ordering occur simultaneously during nucleation, and the nucleation pathways show specificity depending on the element considered, going beyond the hypothesis of Classical Nucleation Theory.

Molecular simulation-derived features for machine learning predictions of metal glass forming ability

Benjamin T. Afflerbach et al.

Summary: Machine learning models for predicting glass forming ability of metallic alloys have been developed using features obtained from molecular dynamics simulations. By analyzing the importance of two key features, it has been shown that this approach significantly improves model performance. This advancement in computationally accessible features will enhance the accuracy of predicting new glass forming alloys in future models.

Prediction of Second Melting Temperatures Already Observed in Pure Elements by Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Robert F. Tournier et al.

Summary: Research has shown that a second melting temperature occurs at Tn+ during the melting process, where the melting entropy is either reduced or increased. By using a non-classical homogeneous nucleation model, successful predictions have been made for the glass transition temperature and nucleation temperature of liquid elements.

Formation of bcc nanocrystals in Co-based amorphous alloys

G. E. Abrosimova et al.

Summary: The influence of various alloying elements on the crystallization process and phases of Co-Fe-B amorphous alloys was studied, showing that higher concentrations lead to smaller nanocrystal sizes. The transition of elements from a bcc lattice to an hcp lattice results in multiphase crystallization.
