Organic Spacer Cation Assisted Modulation of the Structure and Properties of Bismuth Halide Perovskites

Johnpaul K. Pious et al.

Summary: Lead halide perovskites are promising but face challenges of toxicity and instability. In contrast, bismuth halide perovskites (BHPs) offer better chemical stability, lower toxicity, and greater structural versatility. Understanding the crystal structure and optoelectronic properties of BHPs is crucial for designing tailored applications. By increasing the electron affinity of organic spacer ligands, BHPs can have enhanced photoconductivity and visible light absorption. These findings provide valuable guidelines for the rational selection of organic spacer cations in designing high-performance BHP materials.

Perovskite solar cells with atomically coherent interlayers on SnO2 electrodes

Hanul Min et al.

Summary: By introducing an interlayer between the electron-transporting and perovskite layers in perovskite solar cells, researchers have successfully enhanced charge extraction and transport from the perovskite, leading to higher power conversion efficiency and fewer interfacial defects. The coherent interlayer allowed the fabrication of devices with a certified efficiency of 25.5%, which maintained about 90% of its initial efficiency even after continuous light exposure for 500 hours. The findings provide guidelines for designing defect-minimizing interfaces in metal halide perovskites and electron-transporting layers.

Multiple Roles of 1,4-Diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane in the Solvothermal Synthesis of Iodobismuthates

Yunhe Cai et al.

Summary: Hybrid bismuth-containing halides are considered as alternative candidates to lead-containing perovskites for light-harvesting applications due to their similar electronic structures and outstanding charge-carrier transport properties. A family of materials has been prepared with different ligands, and the presence of copper and potassium in the reactions has influenced the crystal structures and optical properties of the resulting compounds.

The influence of copper on the optical band gap of heterometallic iodido antimonates and bismuthates

Jakob Mobs et al.

Summary: Halogenido metalates of heavy main group elements are versatile semiconductor materials with broad applications, especially suitable for photovoltaics due to small optical band gaps. Introducing heterometals like copper can lower the band gap, but no clear trend has been established yet. The main excitation is a charge transfer from copper to antimony or bismuth, influenced by the energetic position of organic ligand orbitals. Nature of ligands and coordination environment at copper atom are crucial for designing new copper iodido antimonates and bismuthates with specific band gaps.
