Muscles from the same muscle group do not necessarily share common drive: evidence from the human triceps surae

Francois Hug et al.

Summary: This study showed that the three muscles composing the human triceps surae share minimal common drive during isometric contractions. The results suggest that reducing the number of effectively controlled degrees of freedom may not always be the strategy used by the central nervous system to control movements. Independent control of some, but not all, synergist muscles may allow for more flexible control to comply with secondary goals such as joint stabilization.

Validated Ultrasound Speckle Tracking Method for Measuring Strains of Knee Collateral Ligaments In-Situ during Varus/Valgus Loading

Felix Dandois et al.

Summary: An ultrasound speckle tracking method was developed, optimized, and validated to assess strains of knee collateral ligaments. By tuning tracking parameters, good correlations and small mean absolute differences were achieved for medial and lateral collateral ligaments. The study showed the potential for clinical translation of ultrasound speckle tracking for knee arthroplasty-related procedures.

Individual variation in Achilles tendon morphology and geometry changes susceptibility to injury

Nai-Hao Yin et al.

Summary: The unique structure of the Achilles tendon, which combines three smaller sub-tendons, enhances movement efficiency by allowing individual control from connected muscles. Factors like age-related compliance decrease and differences in sliding capacity between sub-tendons can affect the mechanical behavior and stress distribution within the whole Achilles tendon, highlighting potential clinical implications for personalized rehabilitation protocols.
