Lithofacies types, reservoir characteristics, and hydrocarbon potential of the lacustrine organic-rich fine-grained rocks affected by tephra of the permian Lucaogou formation, Santanghu basin, western China

Yongshuai Pan et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the lithofacies classification and characteristics of the Lucaogou Fm FGRs, and evaluated their unconventional resource potential using organic geochemical analysis, core observation, routine tests, etc. The results show that the Lucaogou Fm FGRs have abundant organic matter and favorable physical properties, but are hindered by maturity, resulting in poor pore structure in some cases.

Origin of authigenic albite in a lacustrine mixed-deposition sequence (Lucaogou Formation, Junggar Basin) and its diagenesis implications

Haiguang Wu et al.

Summary: Authigenic albites are widely present in unique mixed sequences, with two identified types formed either within dolarenite intraclasts or in dissolution pores. The study reveals that Type I authigenic albites precipitated during syngenetic hydrothermal action, while Type II were formed through dissolution and reprecipitation of perthite crystal pyroclasts influenced by acid organic fluids in latter diagenesis. These findings provide significant insights into diagenesis and reservoir formation.

Why is it easy to form high-quality reservoirs in a mixed siliciclastic-carbonate system? Evidence from diagenetic characteristics

Xuebin Du et al.

Summary: This study investigates the characteristics and formation mechanisms of mixed siliciclastic-carbonate reservoirs in the Bozhong Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, China, using a combination of reservoir geological and geochemical evidence. The results show that bioclastic-dominated mixed rocks represent high-quality reservoirs due to the presence of primary and secondary pores. The main diagenetic processes include micritization, cementation, dissolution, and compaction.

Insights into the pore structure and oil mobility in fine-grained sedimentary rocks: The Lucaogou Formation in Jimusar Sag, Junggar Basin, China

Xiaojiao Pang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the relationship between pore structure and oil movability in fine-grained sedimentary rocks, utilizing various analysis methods such as thin sections, mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). A quantitative evaluation model of movable oil saturation was established based on the findings, improving the understanding of tight/shale oil enrichment in this type of sedimentary rocks.

Factors that controlled deposition of lacustrine, mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments in the upper fourth member of the Eocene Shahejie Formation in the Zhanhua Sag, East China

Yuan Li et al.

Summary: The Zhanhua Sag is a lacustrine basin located in the east-central Jiyang Depression, southern Bohai Bay, northeast China, characterized by mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments. The development of mixed sediments in this area is controlled by paleogeomorphology, sediment supply, and gravity flows. Two lithofacies, mixed grainstones and mixed wackestones, were identified in the study area, mainly formed by gravity flows transporting siliciclastic material into a shallow lake between carbonate shoals and a deltaic system.

Pore structure characteristics and evaluation of lacustrine mixed fine-grained sedimentary rocks: A case study of the Lucaogou Formation in the Malang Sag, Santanghu Basin, Western China

Yongshuai Pan et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively evaluated the pore structure complexity of a mixed fine-grained sedimentary rock reservoir affected by volcanic ash, analyzing the rock mineral composition and pore types. The results showed extremely heterogeneous pore structure, with a mix of fine-grained tuffaceous material and carbonate minerals forming light- and dark-colored laminated structures in the reservoirs. The petrophysical properties were found to be poor, primarily characterized by low porosity and permeability, while different types of pores, such as intergranular pores, intercrystalline pores, vugs, and microfractures, were identified as the main reservoir pore types.
