Novel 3D printed shape-memory PLLA-TMC/GA-TMC scaffolds for bone tissue engineering with the improved mechanical properties and degradability

Xulin Hu et al.

Summary: Biodegradable substitution materials for bone tissue engineering have been a significant research focus. In this study, a novel binary substitution material was developed by blending poly(lactic-acid)-co-(trimethylene-carbonate) and poly(glycolic-acid)-co-(trimethylene-carbonate) polymers. Porous scaffolds with uniform microstructure were fabricated using 3D extrusion printing technology. The results showed that the substitution material exhibited favorable biodegradability, mechanical properties, and shape-memory ability, making it a potential alternative for bone tissue engineering.

Investigation of polycaprolactone for bone tissue engineering scaffolds: In vitro degradation and biological studies

Yanhao Hou et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effects of molecular weight of polycaprolactone (PCL) on the properties of 3D printed bone scaffolds. The results show that molecular weight impacts the surface, mechanical, and biological properties of the scaffolds, while degradation rate remains unaffected. Scaffolds with lower molecular weight exhibit better biomechanical properties.

Genipin-crosslinking polyvinyl alcohol hollow braids degradable tissue engineering scaffolds: Manufacturing techniques and property evaluations

Jia-Ci Jhang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development of biodegradable PVA hollow braids as tissue engineering scaffolds using textile engineering and chemical crosslinking techniques. The mechanical properties and degradation rate of the products were evaluated, with optimal results achieved when PVA twisted yarns were twisted with 3 turns/inch and crosslinked with genipin. The specified hollow braids showed promising mechanical strength and decomposition rate, making them suitable for tissue engineering applications.
