Photophysical and Bactericidal Properties of Pyridinium and Imidazolium Porphyrins for Photodynamic Antimicrobial Chemotherapy

Florent Le Guern et al.

Summary: The study reports the synthesis and characterization of tetracationic porphyrins from three families, comparing their photophysical properties with a well-known pyridinium porphyrin family. The results show that these new photosensitizers may offer a good alternative, especially against S. aureus and E. coli, and pave the way for new cationic photosensitizers through derivatization.

Acetylxylan-pheophorbide-a nanoparticles designed for tumor-targeted photodynamic therapy

Soukaina Bouramtane et al.

Summary: In this study, glucuronoacetylxylan was extracted from chestnut sawdust, pheophorbide-a was semisynthesized and covalently attached to xylan. The resulting conjugates spontaneously formed water-soluble spherical nanoparticles, exhibiting dose-dependent phototoxicity against colorectal cancer cells when irradiated with red light.
