Optical second-harmonic generation microscopy as a tool for ferroelastic domain wall exploration

Hiroko Yokota et al.

Summary: DWs of four typical ferroelastics were observed by SHG microscopy, showing that they are all polar and exhibit symmetry of the high temperature phase. Even when stress was applied to move the DW, the main characteristics did not change, indicating that the DWs of the examined ferroelastics seem to be in a ferroelectric single domain state.

Quantifying the coherent interaction length of second-harmonic microscopy in lithium niobate confined nanostructures

Zeeshan H. Amber et al.

Summary: Thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) on insulator in x- or z-cut form has shown potential for integrated optoelectronic devices, with optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy providing insights into its structural properties. SHG in TFLN is influenced by interfacial reflections and resonant enhancements, with the dominant SHG contribution being the co-propagating phase-matched signal. The coherent interaction length lc depends on the incident laser wavelength and numerical aperture of the focusing objective.

Shedding light on non-Ising polar domain walls: Insight from second harmonic generation microscopy and polarimetry analysis

Salia Cherifi-Hertel et al.

Summary: Polar domain walls have unusual and highly localized functional properties that make them the focus of intensive research for potential technological applications. Recent developments have focused on predicting non-Ising and chiral internal structures of these domain walls, with nonlinear optics, specifically second-harmonic generation (SHG), being used to probe these newly discovered aspects.

Focusing characteristics of polarized second-harmonic emission at non-Ising polar domain walls

Yide Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the effects of vector light fields on the polarized second-harmonic emission at polar domain walls. A precise combination of factors was identified where focusing effects on the emission can be negligible. Furthermore, the study defines a boundary of intrinsic optical parameters of domain walls below which focusing effects can be neglected.

Evolution of the domain structure during polarization reversal in relaxor SBN single crystals studied by Cerenkov-type second harmonic generation microscopy

V. A. Shikhova et al.

Summary: The evolution of domain structure during polarization reversal in single crystals of a relaxor ferroelectric strontium-barium niobate doped with Ni2O3 was investigated. Three types of domains were identified, including domains with a broad boundary, cylindrical domains, and conical domains. Three stages of domain shape evolution were distinguished in the domain with a broad boundary, and the velocities of wall motion and domain growth were measured for all types of domains.
