Global analysis of the apple fruit microbiome: are all apples the same?

Ahmed Abdelfattah et al.

Summary: The first worldwide study on the apple fruit microbiome revealed significant variation in fungal diversity based on geographical location, with several beneficial microbial taxa forming the global core microbiome of apple fruit. This foundational information can be utilized for managing fruit quality and safety, and reducing losses due to postharvest pathogens.

The Microbiome of the Medicinal Plants Achillea millefolium L. and Hamamelis virginiana L.

Simon Sauer et al.

Summary: The microbiome of plants, including medicinal plants, has been extensively studied in recent years. This research focused on the microbial communities of soil, rhizosphere, and above-ground organs, with limited information on seasonal development and simultaneous investigations of different plant organs. Different plant species exhibited distinct microbial communities and temporal development patterns. The core taxa of Achillea constituted a lower fraction of the total number of taxa than of the total abundance of taxa, highlighting plant-specific differences in the composition of microbial communities.
