Fundamental formulation for anti-plane eigenstrain problems

Lifeng Ma

Summary: In this paper, the issues of anti-plane eigenstrain in the context of plane strain are addressed. A fundamental solution for an anti-plane eigenstrain nucleus located in an infinite plane is derived, and toughening problems are formulated using Green's function method. The equivalent eigenstrain principle and Green's function method are also applied to inhomogeneous inclusion problems subjected to anti-plane load, demonstrating potential for exploring more complex problems in this area.

Interaction of a parabolic notch with a generalized singularity

Lifeng Ma et al.

Summary: This paper studies the interaction between a parabolic notch and a generalized singularity and derives an analytical solution. The generalized singularity can represent a concentrated force or an edge dislocation. The study focuses on the interaction between a parabolic notch and a dislocation, obtaining the driving force on the dislocation using the vector J-integral. It is discovered that a dislocation-free zone may exist beneath the notch root surface. The solutions developed in this study provide basic information about the stress state in the notch neighborhood and can be used to model damage at the notch root under complex load conditions.

Elastic field for a blunt crack represented by a parabolic cavity in a generally anisotropic elastic material

Xu Wang et al.

Summary: The elastic field describing stresses and displacements for a blunt crack in generally anisotropic elastic material subjected to two-dimensional deformations was derived using the Stroh sextic formalism. It was found that the elastic field is exact everywhere in an anisotropic elastic material with a parabolic boundary and is not confined to the near-tip region. An explicit expression for the elastic field in an orthotropic elastic material with a parabolic cavity was presented.
