Near-surface imaging from traffic-induced surface waves with dense linear arrays: An application in the urban area of Hangzhou, China

Binbin Mi et al.

Summary: This study successfully investigates near-surface structures using traffic noise and seismic interferometry. By analyzing noise data, accurate information of the underground structures, including phase-velocity dispersion curves and S-wave velocity profiles, is obtained. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the subsurface in urban areas.

Constraining the depth extent of low-velocity zone along the Chenghai Fault by dense array ambient noise interferometry and horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio

Yuyang She et al.

Summary: In this study, seismic ambient noise autocorrelations and cross-correlations, as well as the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio method, were used to investigate the shallow crustal low-velocity zone (LVZ) across the Chenghai Fault in Yunnan, southwest China. The results show that the LVZ is about 1.0 km deep and extends laterally for about 3 km.

ESPAC-based 2D mini-array microtremor method and its application in urban rail transit construction planning

Peifen Xu et al.

Summary: The paper presents a high-resolution 2D microtremor survey method based on the ESPAC method, which can extract the dispersion curve of Rayleigh wave and obtain the Vx profile, accurately mapping geological anomalies in urban engineering projects, such as karst cavities, fractured zone, and the soil/bedrock interface.
