Thermal stress affects proliferation and differentiation of turkey satellite cells through the mTOR/S6K pathway in a growth-dependent manner

Jiahui Xu et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of thermal stress on the activity of the mTOR/S6K pathway in turkey satellite cells (SCs) and the effects of mTOR knockdown on the proliferation, differentiation, and expression of myogenic regulatory factors. The results showed that heat stress increased phosphorylation of mTOR and S6K, while cold stress reduced their phosphorylation levels. Knockdown of mTOR inhibited SCs proliferation and differentiation, leading to irreversible effects on muscle development and growth.

Response of turkey pectoralis major muscle satellite cells to hot and cold thermal stress: Effect of growth selection on satellite cell proliferation and differentiation

Jiahui Xu et al.

Summary: This study compared the proliferation and differentiation of SCs from P. major muscle of NC and RBC2 turkeys under different temperature conditions, finding that proliferation and differentiation increased at hot temperatures and decreased at cold temperatures. The impact of thermal challenge on differentiation was more significant than during proliferation, and NC turkeys were more sensitive to thermal stress compared to RBC2 turkeys.

Effect of Temperature and Selection for Growth on Intracellular Lipid Accumulation and Adipogenic Gene Expression in Turkey Pectoralis Major Muscle Satellite Cells

Jiahui Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of temperature on intracellular lipid synthesis and adipogenic gene expression in satellite cells (SCs) isolated from turkey muscles. It was found that proliferating SCs are more responsive to thermal challenge than differentiating SCs, and growth-selection has increased the temperature sensitivity of SCs, potentially affecting the structure and composition of breast muscles significantly.
