Effects of restricting energy during the gilt development period on growth and reproduction of lines differing in lean growth rate: responses in reproductive performance and longevity

Summary: This study evaluated the reproductive performance and longevity of gilts under different feeding regimes and genetic lines. The results showed that feed restriction and genetic line influenced the age at puberty, litter size, and weaning weight of gilts. However, there were no significant differences in lifetime production traits. The findings provide a foundation for further research.

Summary: This study aimed to model daily standardized ileal digestible Lys-requirements in gestating sows, finding differences in protein and lipid deposition by parity and gestation stage. Increasing SID Lys intake increased maternal protein deposition linearly, but decreased in each sequential stage of gestation. Gilts and sows had negative SID Lys-balance at the end of gestation, which could be prevented by providing 13.5 g/d SID Lys.

Summary: Studies on pig models have shown that dietary valine supplementation can improve milk fat synthesis by increasing milk fat concentration, saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. Proteomic analysis of mammary tissue in the high valine group revealed differential expression of proteins related to milk fat synthesis pathways.
