Coat score. A possible explanation for the zebuine selective sweep located on bovine chromosome 5: 47,670,001-48,100,000 bp

Marianela Balbi et al.

Summary: This study found that the variation in coat score and undercoat hair length in Argentinian Brangus bulls is associated with the presence of specific gene variants, rather than with the whole indicine genetic content. The results of this research are important for understanding and improving the adaptability of livestock animals under heat stress conditions.

PANTHER version 16: a revised family classification, tree-based classification tool, enhancer regions and extensive API

Huaiyu Mi et al.

Summary: PANTHER is a resource for evolutionary and functional classification of protein-coding genes, with extensive improvements made in the past two years, including the refactoring of Protein Class ontology and addition of services for programmatic access. The resource provides comprehensive classification and annotation information for genes from different taxonomic groups and also allows users to add their own protein sequences for evolutionary context and fine-grained annotations.

Estimating inbreeding depression for growth and reproductive traits using pedigree and genomic methods in Argentinean Brangus cattle

Natalia S. Forneris et al.

Summary: In this study, the level of inbreeding and inbreeding depression for growth and reproductive traits in Argentinean Brangus cattle was estimated. The results showed that all traits were unfavorably affected by inbreeding depression.

Taurine and Indicine Haplotype Representation in Advanced Generation Individuals From Three American Breeds

Tamar E. Crum et al.

Summary: Development of American beef cattle breeds began in the 1920s through crossbreeding Brahman with other breeds. However, research shows that lower than expected levels of Brahman ancestry were found in early-generation animals due to selection for beef production traits. Genomic analysis reveals that indicine composition of the genome increases with generation number likely due to selection on adaptive traits, and breed-specific differentiated genomic regions suggest differences in breeding objectives and selection intensities between the American beef cattle breeds.

Genome-Wide Analyses Reveal the Genetic Architecture and Candidate Genes of Indicine, Taurine, Synthetic Crossbreds, and Locally Adapted Cattle in Brazil

Lucas Lima Verardo et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the genotype of 19 cattle breeds raised in Brazil and provided an overview of the genomic architecture of cattle breeds currently raised in Brazil and other tropical countries. Different marker densities should be used among evaluated breeds to improve genomic prediction accuracy and power of genome-wide association studies. Breeds showing low Ne values indicate recent inbreeding, which require special attention in mating schemes to avoid extensive inbreeding.

Genome-Wide Scanning for Signatures of Selection Revealed the Putative Genomic Regions and Candidate Genes Controlling Milk Composition and Coat Color Traits in Sahiwal Cattle

Satish Kumar Illa et al.

Summary: The study identified key candidate genes and putative genomic regions associated with economic traits in Sahiwal cattle using single nucleotide polymorphism data and the DCMS method. It revealed selection for milk production, coat color, and adaptability to tropical climate, providing a background for further understanding and utilizing the traits in Sahiwal cattle.
