Evaluation of Discriminative Detection Abilities of Social Cognition Measures for the Diagnosis of the Behavioral Variant of Frontotemporal Dementia: a Systematic Review

Alessandra Dodich et al.

Summary: The use of social cognition measures in the diagnosis of bvFTD shows potential in clinical settings, especially in emotion recognition and theory of mind tasks. However, the lack of standardized cognitive measures, varied task formats, and limited normative data hinder study comparability. Further comparative studies are needed to determine the best choice for ensuring high diagnostic accuracy in bvFTD assessments.

Progression of Behavioral Disturbances and Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Patients With Genetic Frontotemporal Dementia

Alberto Benussi et al.

Summary: This cohort study uses data from tertiary frontotemporal dementia research clinics across Europe and Canada to assess the frequency and severity of behavioral symptoms and their progression in different forms of genetic frontotemporal dementia. Patients with MAPT variants showed the highest frequency and severity of most behavioral symptoms compared with C9orf72 and GRN carriers. Anxiety and depression were most common in GRN and MAPT carriers; hallucinations, particularly auditory and visual, were most common in C9orf72 carriers.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Affective Social Tasks in the Clinical Classification Between the Behavioral Variant of Frontotemporal Dementia and Other Neurodegenerative Disease

Alessandra Dodich et al.

Summary: This study investigated the accuracy of social cognition performances in the early and differential diagnosis of the behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). Results showed that social measures had significant differences in distinguishing bvFTD from other groups, especially in comparison with the control group.

Spanish Version of the Mini-Linguistic State Examination for the Diagnosis of Primary Progressive Aphasia

Jordi A. Matias-Guiu et al.

Summary: The study adapted and validated the Spanish version of MLSE for PPA diagnosis, showing excellent internal consistency and discriminative properties. MLSE performed well in distinguishing PPA patients from healthy controls and differentiating between clinical variants.

Summary: Speech and language impairments in patients with PSP, CBS, and nfvPPA show similarities in cortical thickness reduction in bilateral frontal regions and striatal volume reduction. Multivariate analysis reveals associations between different speech and language domains and atrophy of specific brain regions.

Language in Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia: Another Stone to Be Turned in Latin America

Amandine Geraudie et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that patients with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia in Latin America commonly experience language difficulties, particularly in phonemic and semantic fluency, naming, semantic processing, and comprehension. These deficits are often associated with overall cognitive impairments, and some may be as severe as in other diseases such as Alzheimer's.
